The heart of the Clifton 11 GTX is the waterproof Gore-Tex Invisible Fit membrane, seamlessly built into the upper. Grip for slippery, wet ground
The outsole is tuned for wetter conditions, with extra traction pods and sticky rubber in the forefoot for hold on slick pavement, wet cycle paths and damp trails. The hard-wearing Durabrasion rubber provides reliable miles at the same time. That way you keep running with confidence, even on wet ground.

A waterproof membrane is less breathable than open mesh, so the GTX feels warmer on hot, dry days than the regular Clifton 11. It is also slightly heavier and pricier. For dry summer training the regular Clifton 11 is airier; for wet and cold weather the GTX plays to its strengths.

Is the Hoka Clifton 11 GTX waterproof?
Yes, thanks to the Gore-Tex Invisible Fit membrane the shoe keeps rain and puddles out and your feet stay dry. Do keep in mind that in very deep water moisture can run in over the top edge. For normal rain, wet paths and wintry conditions the membrane offers reliable protection.
What is the difference from the regular Clifton 11?
The GTX has the same cushioning, drop and fit as the regular Clifton 11, but with a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane and a weather-ready outsole. That makes it slightly heavier, less breathable and a bit more expensive. The regular Clifton is airier for dry and warm weather, the GTX is there for wet and cold.
Is the Clifton 11 GTX suitable for winter?
Yes, the GTX is especially suited to autumn and winter. The membrane keeps your feet dry on wet and snowy ground, while the adapted outsole provides grip on slippery paths. For severe cold, pair it with warm running socks.
Is a Gore-Tex shoe less breathable?
A waterproof membrane lets less heat and moisture escape than open mesh, so on warm, dry days the GTX feels warmer. In cool and wet conditions that is actually pleasant. If you mainly run in summer or like an airy feel, the regular Clifton 11 is a better choice.
Can you wear the Clifton 11 GTX all year round?
You can, but it comes into its own in wet and cold weather. In summer the membrane can feel warm, which is why many runners use the GTX as their autumn and winter shoe alongside an airier summer shoe. That way you have the right option for every season.
