Depending on the season, Assos has different types of cycling shorts in its collection

Do you love to fully enjoy the sun and the most beautiful cycling routes during the summer days? Then, on the warmer days, go for a short cycling short (bib short). With a bib short your thighs still have protection and keep a pleasant temperature. Is it a bit cooler but you still want to ride? Then you can also go for a bib knicker, a cycling short with three-quarter legs. Besides summer, do you also like to ride on spring and autumn days? Then you can also go for a bib tight, also known as a cycling short with long legs. That way you are better protected against wind, cold and rain.

Depending on the weather conditions, you can go for a clima code 1/3 (summer), 2/3 (autumn / spring), 3/3 (winter) or X/3 (all year) cycling short.

The Assos Layering System (ALS) divides the year into four different cycling seasons with colour codes based on the internal climacode system.

Climacode 3/3 for winter (Blue).
Climacode X/3 for all year round (Orange).

Race Series (Equipe / Dyora)

This line from Assos focuses entirely on the goal-oriented speed demons and racing lovers. Go for a lot of speed and as little weight as possible. In addition, the fit within these two lines is entirely tuned to aerodynamics and feels like a second skin.

Besides the Total Comfort and Race Series, Assos also has two offroad lines.

All Mountain (Trail)

Race Series (XC)

Assos premium cycling clothing since 1976

Assos is an innovative pioneering brand that has specialised in developing high-quality cycling clothing and matching accessories.

For the Assos brand, the adventure began in 1976. In the 1970s, founder Tony Maier-Moussa had designed a unique kind of road bike, namely an aerodynamic carbon road bike. To see whether his new road bike was actually superior, Tony went to test it in the wind tunnel. Although he saw at the time that his design did indeed perform many times better, it struck Tony that the position of the rider is of much greater importance for the aerodynamics.

With this thought, Tony also went on to test different kinds of fabrics and materials in the wind tunnel. After various tests, Tony saw that wool was not ideal for cycling clothing. It had too high an air resistance. They had even tested a cyclist naked to see whether bare skin gave faster results. But this test too showed that skin did not give the fastest effect.

Together with his wife, Elaine Maier-Moussa, and a good friend, Hans Hess (a Swiss maker of downhill ski racing suits), Tony went looking for the ideal fabric for his cycling clothing. In doing so, they came across Lycra by chance, a super-elastic fabric. On the introduction of his new Lycra cycling shorts, people were sceptical at first, but when the Ti-Raleigh pro cycling team started wearing the Lycra clothing, they soon noticed a lot of advantage, so much advantage that the rest of the peloton also switched to Lycra clothing.

Elaine Maier-Moussa, Tony's wife, is of Greek descent and had come up with the name for this innovative cycling clothing. In Greek, Assos means "the first, the best".

Today, Assos is still a family company based in Switzerland, where it all once began. There, Assos still works on the most innovative cycling clothing.
