About Castelli
Castelli's history goes all the way back to 1876. Over 146 years ago, Gianni Vittore, a tailor, founded a small clothing store called ""Vittore Gianni Maglieria per lo sport."" In his studio in Italy, Gianni made clothes for businessmen, the Milanese ballet company, and also for football teams like AC Milan and Juventus.
In 1910, Gianni created the first cycling apparel for three-time world champion and five-time Giro d'Italia winner Alfredo Binda. A few years later, in 1935, the company's course changed when the young Armando Castelli joined Gianni.
In 1939, Armando bought the company from Gianni. The company continued to produce cycling apparel for the big names of the time, such as Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi. It didn't stop with a few big cycling names; Castelli and Vittore went on to create cycling apparel for around 12 complete professional teams.
Later in 1948, Maurizio, Armando's first son, was born. Maurizio had been fascinated by sportswear from a young age and learned the trade from his father. However, the two didn't always get along. While Armando preferred to keep things more traditional, Maurizio wanted to move in a more creative and innovative direction.
In 1974, Maurizio Castelli decided to start his own company, which he called Castelli, and the brand adopted the scorpion as its logo. A little later, in 1977, Maurizio introduced Lycra fabric for cycling apparel. This was a revolutionary elastic material, and more and more champions like Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and others chose Castelli for their cycling clothing.
Unfortunately, Maurizio passed away in 1995 at the age of 47 due to cardiac arrest. The brand continued to develop innovative cycling clothing and also began producing cycling clothing for women.
Today, Castelli is one of the largest cycling clothing brands and is known worldwide. Castelli is worn not only by professional cyclists, but it has also become very accessible to recreational and semi-professional cyclists.
